Q Topic/Case Facilitation 15% In Short: Student TEAMS, assigned for that week, will prepare and manage the class facilitation of the topic (and case if included). Teams must meet with the instructor for tips on conducting the facilitation at least two+one weeks prior to the facilitation. See my office hours for times to meet. Teams will also prepare a short Prep (briefing) Quiz/assignment prior to class. The briefing quiz or assignment will be given to the students at the start of class and is part of the briefing grade. You will mark the quiz and give the results to the instructor after the session, to post grades on eLearn. IF YOU CAN TEACH/FACILITATE IT - YOU KNOW IT. I'm here to help you prep as needed. 1. CLASS TIME: LEAD TEAM Topic/Case Facilitation (90 minutes +/-) - the LEAD-TEAM will act as the teachers - engaging the class- and will provide, Prep-quiz, PPT, Media, Analysis and Activities (eg. Google.doc for breakouts) as may be relevant to assess the topic/case/company/industry risks, rocks, opportunities and strategic plans. You will be responsible for initiating group BREAKOUTS on Zoom (or MSTeams tbd) to develop insights related to the company/industry’s strategies, competencies, competitive strategies, challenges, and prowess (including current investment potential). Read the case/topic links, then plan this out and have an agenda. See me beforehand for input. PPT and breakout-docs should be professional (tight) and uploaded to eLearn after class. 2. WRAP UP - THE LEAD-TEAM will provide a summary of key learnings from the session at the end of the class, explain how an investor/student could play it, or other relevant takeaways. Finally, update your PPT based on the learnings from the class and upload a final copy to eLearn along with optional peer assessment. Facilitation is worth 15% of the grade + additional 5% based on Individual Peer Assessment and Contributions = 20% Total The objectives of this learning assessment are to enable students to: ? Use research techniques (media/internet-sources/apps) to understand contemporary business subjects and companies (including: industry dynamics, competitive positioning, strategic challenges, strategies used to obtain competitive advantages/generate sustainable growth and profits, and how to assess current valuation and future potential). ? Apply tools/frameworks and strategic insights to analyze topic company(ies), industries, competencies, strategies, challenges, and markets opportunities and investment potential. . ? To develop and apply strategic planning skills - to assess current decision problems, issues, and opportunities that companies face - and apply frameworks/tools to compare and recommend potential solutions and strategies. ? To run the numbers - and assess the companies performance and investment potential ? To further develop and practice communication/collaboration skills working as a group, and facilitating a case analysis discussion for the class. ? To develop contemporary business knowledge and perspective - to be shared at cocktail parties and in job interviews! How it works? Teams will be formed and topics assigned. Teams will research (using assigned links, company websites, case materials, news releases, youtube posts, earnings calls/reports, and investment sites), to analyze the topic and prepare their case/topic for facilitation. Students will apply various frameworks and tools (from text, instructor recommended, and resources) to support their analysis. In addition, each group is to meet with the instructor before they facilitate the case/topic in class. Working as a team, each of the groups will facilitate a topic/case discussion based on a plan and agenda to be provided to the instructor. The groups will have the entire class time to facilitate their class plan, unless otherwise agreed to with the instructor. The Topic/Case facilitation will be marked by the instructor based on the quality of the facilitation including (professionalism, interaction/engagement of the class, depth of analysis, the tools/assessments used, organization, flow, use of visual aids, creativity, and learnings). Mark will be adjusted based on Peer Evaluations & Contribution. Hints and Habits: ? It is crucial that all group members are equally prepared for the case facilitation, and contribution is evident. Please make sure that your group follows the agenda as planned and that all the materials for the case facilitation are ready and set up in advance. ? Prior to the class, make sure you provide a proposed agenda for the class facilitation - with a detailed list of scheduled activities, and elements ? Prepare breakout materials, visual aids, quiz, and media before-hand for student engagement. ? Keep in mind that your goal is to lead the class to gain a similar level of understanding and analysis that your group has achieved. Put them to work (i.e. engage us to help). ? A peer and self-evaluation may be completed after the facilitation and grades may be adjusted based on this. So bring game and share in the heavy lifting. ? The students have the opportunity to meet with the instructor as necessary to discuss the details of the proposed case facilitation. So start working on this assignment at least two/three weeks before the day of the facilitation. And come see me! The case analysis and report will be marked according to the written case report evaluation criteria available on Moodle• ? Facilitation content may vary by topic by generally includes ? Warm-up Briefing Quiz (6-10 questions based on case/readings and/or pre- activity assignment) ? Sort Video, ppt and media to show/explain the case/topic and issues ? Background and key elements of the case/topic ? Situational Analysis/Assessment Activities - PESTEL, VCA, P-5, SWOT, etc. Valuations in the context of the topic, company, and industry/country in focus. ? BREAK ? Strategic Planning Activities (see below) Idea generation and recommendations and maybe a debate ? Valuation Assessment: Bear vs Bull ? Wrap up/key points to remember. See Grading Rubric for Details Team Work & Individual Report Option - I respect any decision your team makes regarding team members and team work. Should a student(s) not participate in the facilitation for any reason, they can still complete this assignment. They will need to provide a written report analysis regarding the case/topic, including a strategic planning element. The MAX grade the student(s) can get doing this written option is 15/15. They will forgo the 5% peer evaluation portion - 0/5. Members who may be taking this option will need to book time with the instructor to discuss brief and deliverables expectations.
